Happy First Communion Day!

Today was Grace's First Communion. What a perfect day! Grace looked so beautiful and she did a great job doing her reading at mass. Before I post pictures of the party, I thought it appropriate to share a few pics of the day and of my "little" girl who is growing up all too fast!

 

Thank you to Mother Nature for cooperating!  It was a cool day, but given our early Spring, we were able to get lots of great outdoor pics.  Up next, the celebration :)  Thanks for looking!

First Communion Fireplace Banners

Slowly but surely it is starting to look like a First Communion / 8th Birthday Celebration around here :)  Can I say again without sounding nauseating how much I love the printables from Carli from Dimple Prints!  They are just perfect.  Here is how I used them for a burlap banner and doily banner to decorate the fireplace.  You'll have to excuse my "expert" photography skills!

 

To make the doily banner, I simply punched out the letters with my 2" scallop punch.  I then glued the letters to the center of the doily, threaded through some baker's twine and simple as that, I had a banner!

To make the burlap banner, I had a left over piece of burlap from a feed sack I used for a home decor project.  I cut it to size, hot glued the paper banner to it, added some festooning with hot glue and then glued a pocket for a wooden dowel I had.  Again, so easy!

Scotcheroo Pops

Watch out cake pops, push pops and brownie pops!  Make room for the Scotcheroo Pop!  Who doesn't love the delicious treat of Scotcheroos?  Even better, Kellogg's now has Gluten Free Rice Krispies (that don't taste like cardboard!)

For Grace's 1st Communion, I found these adorable edible doily rosettes from Sweet Deja Vu on Etsy.

I originally thought I'd use them for a cake decoration.  Then Grace decided she wanted an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen (not really in tune with the theme, Grace...)  So, I improvised, and here is how I used them:

These were SO easy to make!  I used my circle mold cake pan.  I made the Scotcheroos as the recipe notes.  I then took the mixture and filled each mold.  I stuck a dowel in each pop before it hardened.  Then I poured the chocolate mixture on top, spread it around.  After it cooled a bit, I added the doily rosette.  When they were completely cooled, I put them in a cello bag, tied them off with baker's twine and a printable tag.  Easy, peasy!  I am not one for puttsy food projects and this was perfect!

Baker's Twine Wreath with Paper Doily and Lace Flowers

Only a few days to go until Grace's 1st Communion/8th Birthday party.  So much to do and so little time.  I stayed up way too late finishing off this wreath, but I LOVE how it turned out.  I think I have my new Spring wreath :)  For the 1st Communion, I am going to place a gorgeous sign/banner behind it.  But here it is sans sign:



I used brown and white baker's twine for the top, pink and white baker's twine for the middle and regular twine for the bottom.  I adhered a pink lace flower as well as two paper doily flowers.  The tutorial for the flowers can be found here at Hostess with the Mostess.  This wreath took me almost 3 hours, including kiddo interuptions, bedtime routine and the occasional distraction with Facebook :)

Tonight's project, trying to figure out what to do with my awesome Scotcheroo pops!  I think I'm going their going to be the new craze on the "pop" scene :)

Let's Roller Skate! Grace is 8! - Roller Skate Party Favors

I'm back with another post.  It seems my blog posts come in 2's these days :)  This post features the favors for Grace's friend party - her roller skating party :)

My wonderful and talented friend Jean makes FABULOUS headbands - they don't slip, are reversible and are so darn cute!  Here is her Etsy shop.  Not sure if it was out of the guilt I possibly laid on her :), but she agreed to make headbands for the party for favors.  Grace is going with a zebra print theme.  She picked out the fabric for the headbands. 

Here is how cute they turned out:

Of course, I couldn't just hand out the headbands to the girls :)  I had to package them in some adorable way.  I found these cups online, added some paper Easter grass and here they are:

The fabulous Carli of Dimple Prints made custom printables for us for the roller skate party.  Add a little coordinating ribbon from Hobby Lobby, and here they are :)

I had to get a few pics of Grace holding the favors, modeling the headband with her coordinating skirt I found on Zulily.

First Communion and Birthday Favors

Only about one week to Grace's First Holy Communion and still lots to do.  I am usually ready for a party by now, but this time not so much.  Oh well, I have no fear we'll be ready :)

I wanted to share the favors.  The lovely and talented Carli from Dimple Prints designed all the printables for Grace's First Communion/8th Birthday Party.  Her actual birthday is 1 week after First Communion so we are combining her family birthday party and her First Communion celebration.  I can't say enough how much I LOVE the printables Carli designed.  See here and here for more of the collection.

Paper Doily Wreath

Two posts in two days :)  The weather was "bad" enough this weekend that I actually got something done for Grace's First Communion/8th Birthday Party.  This wreath was inspired by the darling wreath Paula from Frog Prince Paperie put together for Valentine's Day.  See here.

Mine did not turn out exactly as nice as her's.  I think I rolled my doilies too tight.  I had to layer a few more than she used to fill up the "holes."  In the end, I think it turned out.  Thanks Paula for the tutorial and inspiration!  The center medallion is part of the printable package from Carli at Dimple Prints.  So adorable!
